Commodities represent the primary sector of the Indian economy having both direct and indirect implications for the stakeholders. The orderly growth and development of commodity markets would be crucial to put the economy in the right path to achieve its future growth potential. Additionally, the significance of commodity markets cannot be undermined as many other developing nations have started adopting it in their journey from the social planning and governance model to market oriented economies. Besides being an investment avenue, despite the limitations that Indian commodity markets may have, they have proven themselves to be efficient hedging avenues as well with their annual volumes crossing the size of our GDP for FY 2010-11.
